Around Skyworld: Possible New Nintendo World Events, AR Card Distributions

Hey all!

Today while at Nintendo World in New York City, I asked if there were going to be any more Kid Icarus related events since Friday Free-for-Alls have ended. The person I talked to (I unfortunately didn’t get his name) stated that the Kid Icarus events are some of the most popular events going on at the store, and they may try to do some new events in the coming months, such as Chapter Challenges or organized Light vs. Dark matches. He also said that there would probably be some ongoing Free-for-All matches at the store as well, at the normal time from 6:00-8:00pm on Fridays.

As for AR cards, in addition to distribution at new Nintendo World events, Nintendo will be distributing more cards at different gaming conventions (such as PAX, but presumably others as well). Therefore, if you’re still looking for Series 2 AR cards, you should check those places to get some.

Orbitars Battle Network: Fall Friendly and More League Information!

AmeobaHewdraw is holding a Fall Friendly, weekly play sessions every Saturday throughout Fall. It will start at 10am EST, will be unranked, and will switch off between Light vs. Dark and Free-for-All. This will be more of a low-pressure environment to play with people in, so if you’re looking for more people to play with, this will be an excellent opportunity!

You can find out more from AmoebaHewdraw’s post here in the forums. Of course, if you aren’t already a member of the forums, we encourage you to sign up!

In League news, I’ve been having trouble finding time to actually run a Fall League, as grad school and regular travel have made finding a regular time when people can actually play somewhat difficult. I’ve been playing around with the idea of Wednesdays at 10am EST, but other weekdays (that aren’t Friday) would probably work as well. The League would follow standard league rules that can be seen here, with the exception that both Light vs. Dark and Free-for-All would be implemented (especially as Free-for-All tends to be the more competitive game mode). What seems good for everyone else?

Kid Icarus: Uprising Friday Free-for-All at Nintendo World!

Good evening, Orbitars! This is a note to say that for the month of September, the Nintendo World Store in New York City will have open Free-for-All battles on Fridays from 6-8pm. All participants will receive a Series 2 AR Card pack regardless of skill level, so if you’re in the area, you should check it out! I’m going to be in NYC tomorrow, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make it yet. If I can, I’ll scan and post images of AR cards!

UPDATE: Event poster from the store uploaded!

Kid Icarus: Uprising Powers List Now Online!

Good evening, Orbitars! I’m here to leave a little note about great news: The Powers List is up!

In the Powers page, you’ll find names, descriptions, and Power Board images for nearly every single power! We’re missing a few individual levels for certain powers and missing all of Warp’s levels, so if you have anything to add, be sure to email us, leave a comment, or post your information in the forums. This was a truly massive undertaking, and I’d like to thank ShinobiKid and AmoebaHewdraw for their excellent input. Of course, we’ll update the Powers List as we get more information.

For those of you wondering what’s up next, my new projects for the site are running the Orbitars League (click the links on the sidebar if you’re interested in participating), doing a Strategy Article about making the most of the Power Board, and adding more information about Weapons, including doing more Weapon Spotlight pieces and even doing a Weapon Fusion Generator. These things are further in the future, but if you’re interested in contributing, let us know. We’re always looking for more contributors, especially if you want to write articles!

Orbitars League Information!

Are you getting tired of beating your friends with your awesome weapons? Or are you just looking for some new Kid Icarus: Uprising competition?

If so, the Orbitars League is the place for you!

The Orbitars League is an online community for both Light vs. Dark and Free-for-All players looking to hone their skills against new competition, all while accumulating a running score for a league season.

EDIT: The Orbitars Practice League is now having sessions, and is taking people to do test runs! If you’re interested in seeing the leaderboards, check here!

How does it work?

League sessions will be run by a League Administrator (LA), who will be appointed by Orbitars staff. Your LAs will open LvD and FFA rooms in Together/Far Away Mode on Kid Icarus: Uprising, which league members can join. Everyone will play their matches as normal, and then afterward, your LA will record each player’s Point total, Number of Kills, and Number of Deaths. After all of the matches for the day have concluded, these totals will be recorded and posted on the League Board. There will be four league seasons per year, starting September 1, December 1, March 1, and June 1. After the conclusion of each League season, the numbers will reset.

Does it cost anything? Will I have to attend every session?

Nope! All you’ll need is to post a Player Name and Friend Code on the appropriate League Season page. Of course, you’ll have to register your League Administrator as a friend as well. From that point, just attend whatever session you can, and your LA will take care of the rest!

Will there be player ratings?

Yes! Elo-style ratings will be calculated by the League Administrator using this online algorithm. Each player will start with an Elo value of 1000, which will rise and fall depending on how well you do during individual Kid Icarus games. Player ranking in matches will be determined by number of points, with number of kills and number of deaths serving as tiebreakers. CPU players, if applicable, will always be set to CPU Level 5 in standard League play, and will be given a constant Elo rank of 1000. Additionally, Light vs. Dark and Free-for-All will be ranked separately, so you can choose to do one style of play, or both.

Do I get anything for winning or doing well?

That’s a great question. While we can’t guarantee any sort of physical prize support at first, we can easily do things like congratulatory banners/avatars/other images, and other things like that. Of course, if there ends up being a lot of support and league attendance, who knows what we might be able to come up with? We’re open to suggestions!

Will there be tournaments?

If there is enough interest, absolutely. Any sort of tournament event would be worth more points than your standard League session. We’re playing around with the ideas of having a yearly Tournament of Champions, as well.

How do I become a League Administrator?

As the League grows, we’ll need more League Administrators. If you show that you’re responsible and have the time to host League events, we’ll get in contact with you. So just try your best to attend events, and chances are you may get a test run!

Sounds great, when will Leagues begin?

As stated before, we’re starting the Orbitars 2012 Fall League on September 1, where League sessions will happen about once a week at first. Until then, we’ll be doing League Previews to test out kinks and hear feedback. The first League Preview will be on Saturday, July 28, at a time to be announced.

If you’re interested in being a preview tester, let us know in the comments.
